“My neck… my back…” Usher had to take a step back from the spotlight and hit pause on his much-anticipated “Past Present Future” tour.
The R&B superstar took to Instagram on Thursday to share that a neck injury has forced him to postpone the opening night of his Atlanta tour dates.
“Earlier this week, I suffered an injury to my neck while rehearsing to provide my fans with the greatest Usher show of all time,” Usher wrote in his post.
My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night.
Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.
The good news is that the doctors are saying that with appropriate rest and treatment, I should be ready to commence the tour in Washington DC on August 20th.
I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence that you expect from an Usher show and that I will be on stage in your city very soon.
As for the postponed Atlanta dates at State Farm Arena, Usher confirmed the new schedule: the August 14th show will now take place on December 9th, the August 16th show is rescheduled for December 10th, and the August 17th show will happen on December 12th.
Just a day before his announcement, Usher had only mentioned needing to cancel the August 14th date without specifying the nature of his injury.
A rep for Usher told Variety that the singer needed time to heal from an unspecified injury, but no further details were provided.
The decision to postpone must have been made quite recently, as Usher was still hyping up the tour on social media earlier this week, with tickets and parking information for the Wednesday show going out as late as Tuesday night.
Please join me in wishing Usher a full and speedy recovery.
