I am happy to report the five former Memphis police officers involved in the beating death of Tyre Nichols have been charged with second-degree murder.
On Thursday (January 26), Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmit Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith were booked into the Shelby County Jail in Memphis on several charges including second-degree murder, official misconduct, official oppression, and aggravated kidnapping.
Tyre Nichols was pulled over on January 7 for reckless driving.
Police claim he ran off after a confrontation with officers.
After he was caught and detained, the officers brutally beat Tyre to the point that he was unrecognizable at the hospital.
Tyre died three days later as a result of his injuries.
An independent autopsy conducted by a specialist hired by Tyre’s family determined he died from internal bleeding caused by a severe beating.
All five officers were fired from the force and will now face charges for their senseless brutality resulting in Tyre’s death.
Tyre Nichols was just 29 years old.
Attorney Ben Crump is representing the family.
He took to social media to announce the former officers have been charged.
Watch the CNN Report below.
My thoughts and prayers are with Tyre’s family as they grieve his loss and fight for justice.
Update: A sixth officer, Preston Hemphill, has also been fired.
