DJ Envy explained that he decided to stop playing Nicki Minaj‘s music after she threatened DJ Self for having an opinion about her album.
I guess it was about five or six years ago… DJ Self, who is a deejay on this station – and I ride for the deejays and I support all of the deejays – he said that Cardi B’s album was better than Nicki Minaj.
Nicki Minaj, at the time, got upset and said she would send some Queens dudes up here to pretty much beat him up.
And she was threatening him and I thought that was wack. I thought that if someone has an opinion you can’t threaten that man for his opinion.
DJ Envy went on to share how he feels like the deejay always ends up being the punching bag for artists who have issues with other artists.
The deejay always gets picked on…always gets bullied and that’s not right. I’m not going to let you just threaten a deejay because he had an opinion.
So, what I said was I’m not going to play Nicki’s record until they squash that beef. That has nothing to do with the station. I don’t pick the records that the station plays. I don’t pick the records that you hear every morning.
I just said I don’t want to because you threatened that man on an opinion.
