NBA YoungBoy, aka Kentrell Gaulden, is once again in hot water after picking up a fresh felony gun charge in Utah.

This development comes just days after the rapper moved to transfer his 2020 federal gun case from Baton Rouge to Utah, where he intended to plead guilty.

Federal prosecutors in Utah filed the new charge on August 19, accusing NBA YoungBoy of illegally possessing a Sig Sauer P365 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

The charge stems from his April arrest during an investigation into a large-scale prescription drug fraud ring across Utah.

Authorities allege that NBA YoungBoy and his associates used fake identities to scam pharmacies for drugs, leading to the discovery of the firearm.

This isn’t the first time Gaulden has been in legal trouble.

He’s been barred from owning guns since a 2016 shootout case, which makes the new gun charge particularly serious.

On top of the federal case, he also faces state charges in Utah, with court dates lined up in Weber County on August 29 and Cache County on September 23.

The timing of this new charge is notable.

It was filed just after Gaulden agreed to have his 2020 Baton Rouge gun case transferred to Utah, where he planned to plead guilty and move toward sentencing.

That case involves charges of possession of firearms by a convicted felon, following a 2020 music video shoot in Baton Rouge where police found NBA YoungBoy with a 9mm handgun and a .45-caliber Glock.

The decision to transfer the Baton Rouge case to Utah is largely for convenience, as Gaulden is already dealing with other legal issues in the state and remains in custody there.

If he fails to enter a guilty plea in Utah, the case could be sent back to Louisiana, potentially leading to a trial.

While the charges Gaulden faces carry the possibility of up to 10 years in prison, fines, and supervised release, it’s worth noting that federal judges rarely hand down the maximum sentence.

Still, NBA YoungBoy’s legal troubles are far from over, and the next few weeks will be crucial in determining his future.
