Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not be attending Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration on January 20, a spokesperson for the Obamas confirmed.
This decision follows her recent absence from the state funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, sparking questions about her public appearances.
Michelle’s choice to skip these events is notable, as presidential inaugurations are typically attended by former presidents and their families to symbolize the peaceful transfer of power.
During Trump’s first inauguration in 2017, Michelle and Barack Obama were present, along with other key political figures, including Joe and Jill Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and George W. Bush.
However, Trump’s 2021 decision to skip President Biden’s inauguration broke long-standing tradition and added to the growing polarization in U.S. politics.
Michelle’s absence from Jimmy Carter’s funeral was attributed to a scheduling conflict, as she was reportedly still in Hawaii on vacation.
While some may see these choices as personal, they have stirred conversations about the roles and responsibilities of former first families in public life.
Meanwhile, Trump plans to host a “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” on January 19 in Washington, D.C., the night before his inauguration.
This rally, which could attract up to 20,000 attendees, will be Trump’s first in the capital since the January 6, 2021, events at the Capitol.
Michelle Obama’s decision to skip these high-profile events reflects her personal priorities and self-care.
And I am not mad at my forever FLOTUS one bit for prioritizing her peace and I pray all is well.
