Men Accused Of Killing Jam Master Jay Won’t Face Death Penalty

Federal prosecutors will not seek the death penalty for two men accused of killing Jam Master Jay of the pioneering Hip Hop group Run-DMC.

Jay, real name Jason Mizell, was murdered inside of a Queen recording studio on October 30, 2002.

In 2020, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan, Jr. were indicted on charges of murder while engaged in drug trafficking, according to two law enforcement sources.

Prosecutors said Mizell, who was 37 at the time, was targeted for cutting Washington and Jordan out of a drug deal.

On Saturday, Attorney General Merrick Garland directed the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn not to move forward with a capital punishment case against Washington and Jordan.

A trial date has not been set at this time.

Rest in peace, Jam Master Jay.
