The Chicago drill music scene was rocked Thursday night as rapper Lil Durk (Durk Banks) was arrested in Florida, marking another dramatic chapter in the ongoing tensions that have defined the genre’s history.
The 32-year-old founder of Only the Family (OTF) was booked into Broward County Jail facing murder-for-hire charges, according to jail records.
Lil Durk & OTF Empire Under Federal Scrutiny
The arrest comes as federal prosecutors unsealed a bombshell indictment in Los Angeles targeting five members of Durk’s OTF collective.
The charges stem from an alleged murder-for-hire plot against fellow rapper Quando Rondo, highlighting the dangerous intersection of music and street violence that has long plagued the drill scene.
The following OTF associates face serious federal charges:
- Kavon London Grant
- Deandre Dontrell Wilson
- Keith Jones
- David Brian Lindsey
- Asa Houston
A Web Of Violence: From King Von To Quando Rondo
The indictment reveals a complex chain of events dating back to the 2020 death of rising Chicago drill rapper King Von (Dayvon Daquan Bennett) in Atlanta.
Prosecutors allege that OTF members orchestrated a sophisticated revenge plot against Quando Rondo (Tyquian Terrel Bowman), who was suspected of involvement in Von’s death.
According to court documents, the conspiracy included:
- Offering money and music opportunities in exchange for Bowman’s murder
- Using OTF credit cards to finance travel and logistics
- Coordinating a sophisticated surveillance operation in Los Angeles
- Executing a shooting that claimed the life of Bowman’s cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson
The Rise & Potential Fall Of OTF
Lil Durk founded OTF in 2010, establishing himself as a cornerstone figure in Chicago’s influential drill music movement.
The collective grew from a local crew to a significant force in hip-hop, launching careers and shaping the sound of modern rap.
However, this latest development threatens to destabilize one of drill music’s most prominent organizations.
Lil Durk’s Ongoing Legal Challenges
Beyond the current charges, Durk faces additional legal pressure.
Earlier this month, he was named in a lawsuit connected to the 2020 fatal shooting of FBG Duck in Chicago’s upscale Gold Coast neighborhood, further complicating his legal situation.
