Karen Huger, a fan favorite from “The Real Housewives of Potomac“, has been found guilty on multiple charges stemming from a DUI incident in Maryland earlier this year.
Huger, 61, now faces sentencing on January 29 after being convicted of driving under the influence and several related charges, though she was acquitted of reckless driving.
The incident, which occurred on March 19 in Potomac, Maryland, involved Karen crossing a median, striking several street signs, and narrowly avoiding a more serious collision.
According to witnesses, she was allegedly driving at high speeds in an “aggressive manner.”
Karen Huger’s Legal Team Responds
Despite the verdict, Huger’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment with the outcome:
“Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case. We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time,” Bolden said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.
Details Of The March 19 Incident
Authorities confirmed that Karen Huger’s vehicle crossed a median and hit multiple street signs.
Bodycam footage from the scene captured a visibly emotional Huger, who denied being intoxicated.
When told by an officer that she appeared “hammered,” Huger reportedly responded, “That’s bulls**t.”
Witnesses at the scene painted a troubling picture.
A volunteer EMT testified that Huger declined medical treatment and appeared unsteady on her feet, allegedly telling first responders to “f**k off.”
However, she also reportedly complimented a female firefighter, calling her “so beautiful.”
Huger later attributed the accident to a deeply emotional moment.
In a statement to TMZ shortly after the incident, she shared that grief over her late mother had overwhelmed her that evening:
With the passing of my Beloved Mother, grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mother’s Day approaching, it has felt more like a tsunami.
Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me.
I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider, and then a tree.
Huger went on to thank her seatbelt and her late mother, whom she described as her “Guardian Angel,” for saving her life.
