I’m not even going to hold you… my conversation with Iyanla Vanzant felt like a spiritual check-in I didn’t know I needed.
The kind that makes you sit up straighter like, “Wait… why am I catching strays and healing at the same time?”
Iyanla has been on my vision board for years, so being able to sit down with her and talk about her brand-new OWN series, “Iyanla: The Inside Fix,” felt like a full-circle moment.
And listen… this isn’t just her coming back.
This is her coming back with a deeper assignment.

“Iyanla: The Inside Fix” premieres Saturday, January 17 at 8PM ET/PT on OWN, and this time, Ms. Vanzant isn’t just revisiting iconic episodes.
She’s showing us what we missed, what we ignored, and what we need to stop pretending doesn’t apply to us.
This Time, The Fix Isn’t “Out There”… It’s In Us
One of the most powerful things Iyanla Vanzant told me is why this series is called “The Inside Fix” and not “Fix My Life.”
She explained that the original show was “out there.”
You could watch it and convince yourself the mess had nothing to do with you.
You could judge, gasp, repost the clip, and move right along.
But this time?
She’s not letting anybody hide behind the screen.
Every episode is designed to make the viewer stop and ask:
- Why did that trigger you?
- Where did you learn that?
- Where is that present in your life right now?
And the part that hit me the hardest is this: she reminded us that you don’t have to wait for anyone else to change in order to start healing.
You do your work. Period.

“Spiritual Hygiene” Is The Message, And Baby, We Need It
When Iyanla Vanzant brought up spiritual hygiene, I almost shouted “amen” in my chair because the world has been heavy.
She explained that so much of today’s chaos is rooted in the fact that change is happening, but many of us were taught tools, expectations, and coping skills that are no longer applicable to the time we’re living in.
In other words: we’re trying to handle today’s pressure with yesterday’s programming.
And it’s not working.
Iyanla described spiritual hygiene as the practice of cleaning up your insides so your outside doesn’t look so chaotic.
Now that right there is a word.
Because when your inner world is unaddressed, it spills into everything: your relationship, your friendships, your parenting, your finances, your peace.
And Iyanla made it clear, the era of waiting for someone else to “fix” us is over.
It’s about personal accountability, integrity, and honesty, and it’s not hard to see what happens when those things are missing.
We’re watching it every day.
The Workbook Makes Healing Actionable, Not Just Watchable
One of the biggest upgrades to this series is the Fix It Workbook that comes with each episode.
Iyanla Vanzant explained something so real: sometimes people don’t ask the question because they don’t know what question to ask. And sometimes they don’t ask because they don’t know what to do with the answer once it shows up.
The worksheet solves that.
It tells you what to ask, where to look, and what to do next.
And I’ll be honest, even watching an episode I’ve already seen a million times, I still recognized things in myself. Like as a 50-year-old woman, I was sitting there thinking, “Wait a minute… that’s me.”
So trust and believe I will be scooping my workbook!
Because healing doesn’t stop just because you’ve seen the lesson before.
Why These Episodes Still Hit So Hard
I asked Iyanla how she decided which episodes to revisit because the “Fix My Life” catalog is legendary.
She said they started with the highest rated episodes since those were the ones most people saw.
Then they chose issues that are still extremely prevalent today.
And when you think about it, the world has shifted dramatically since “Fix My Life” first aired.
With social media, technology, the political climate, and the way people “cancel” each other now, the same issues show up differently, but the healing process still applies.
That’s what makes this series feel timely.
It’s not nostalgia. It’s necessary.
Let’s Talk About Lady Balls, Because I Needed That Reminder
Before we wrapped, I had to ask her about one of my favorite concepts she ever introduced: lady balls.
And yes, she made sure to clarify that there’s a difference between testicles and lady balls.
She said lady balls are a way of being, standing in your power and truth with:
- confidence
- assertiveness
- wisdom
- calm strength
- compassion for yourself and others
Not aggression. Not domination. Not control.
And whew, it was a reminder that being powerful doesn’t mean being hardened.
My Final Takeaway: This Is A Reset, Not A Replay
“Iyanla: The Inside Fix” is what happens when healing gets real grown.
It’s not just about watching someone else’s mess and saying, “Lord… fix them.”
It’s about realizing: It might be you too, beloved.
And that’s the kind of truth that can change everything.
