Howard University has released a statement in regards to the backlash Phylicia Rashad received after she publicly celebrated Bill Cosby’s overturned conviction.

Phylicia took to social media writing, “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted – a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”

After she was dragged through the streets of social media and labeled a “rape enabler,” Phylicia took to her Instagram Story to issue this statement:

I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward. My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.

Some began calling for Phylicia Rashad, who was recently appointed Dean of Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, to step down.
