HBO’s ‘Lanterns’ Begins Production (First Look)

HBO has officially begun production on its highly anticipated drama series, “Lanterns,” at the historic Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.

As an HBO Original in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, “Lanterns” brings the legendary “Green Lantern” mythology to life with a fresh, grounded take on the iconic superhero saga.

A Dark Mystery Unfolds in ‘Lanterns

The series follows new recruit John Stewart and seasoned Lantern legend Hal Jordan as they uncover a gripping, earthbound mystery.

The duo, intergalactic law enforcers, are drawn into a chilling murder investigation in the American heartland, setting the stage for an intense and thought-provoking drama.

A Stellar Cast and Creative Team

The show boasts an impressive ensemble, featuring Aaron Pierre (that’s Mufasaaa), Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen.

Guiding the series is Chris Mundy, serving as both showrunner and executive producer.

“From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama—rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world-building—that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion,” Mundy shared.

The “Lanterns” pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King.

Acclaimed director James Hawes helms the first two episodes, with additional direction from Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov.

The series is backed by executive producers Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes.
