HBO Max has released the official trailer for the stand-up comedy special, “Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?”
In his first one-hour stand-up comedy special, Chris returns to his hometown of St. Louis to highlight pivotal parts of his life that made him into the person he is today.
Redd’s comedic stylings explore his days of living like Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” music video, realizing he’d been chasing someone else’s dreams — the NBA, “SNL,” and becoming the next Notorious B.I.G., and how his therapist taught him that even if he’ll never be tall enough to dunk, he can still grow as a person.
The special is executive produced by Conan O’Brien, Chris Redd, Jeff Ross, J.P. Buck, John Irwin, and Brooke Shoemaker.
It was just this past September that the 37-year-old comedian, actor, and writer announced his exit from “Saturday Night Live” after five seasons on the long-running late-night showcase.
In a statement, Chris said:
Being a part of ‘SNL’ has been the experience of a lifetime.
Five years ago, I walked into 30 Rock knowing that this was an amazing opportunity for growth.
Now, with friends who have become family and memories I will cherish forever, I’m grateful to Lorne Michaels and to the entire ‘SNL’ organization.
From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you all enough.
We later learned he was dating Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife, but that’s another story for another day.
I became a fan of Chris after watching him on the hilarious and severely out-of-pocket Peacock series, “Bust Down.”
And I can assure you – I asked myself several times, “Why is he like this?!” ?
But, based on the video Chris recently posted on his Instagram page, I’m not the only one with questions.

I will be on time for this stand-up comedy special when it premieres on HBO Max on November 3.
