This development is a long-awaited moment for Arbery’s family and supporters who have been seeking full accountability since his tragic killing.

Marcus Arbery, Ahmaud’s father, shared his relief about the case moving forward.

“It’s time for her to come to justice,” he told Action News Jax.

“My boy has been gone almost five years now. My family is still hurting and suffering.”

Johnson, who was the DA at the time, is accused of showing favoritism toward Greg McMichael, one of the men involved in Arbery’s death, because he used to work under her.

She allegedly delayed action against McMichael, his son Travis McMichael, and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan, who were all later convicted of murder and federal hate crimes for Arbery’s killing.

The three men, all white, chased down Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, as he jogged through their neighborhood in Brunswick, Georgia, before Travis McMichael shot him.

Bryan recorded the incident on his phone, and the footage ignited national outrage.

Jackie Johnson’s trial is set to begin with jury selection on January 21, 2025, giving Ahmaud Arbery’s family a glimmer of hope that this chapter may finally close.

For Marcus Arbery, this trial is not just about his son’s case—it’s about addressing deeper issues in a justice system that let his family down.

“I just want one thing,” he said simply. “Justice. 100% justice for Ahmaud.”
