It’s with a heavy heart that I report Isaac Freeman III, professionally known as Fatman Scoop, has passed away.

He was 53.

The iconic rapper and hype-man died after collapsing onstage during a show on Friday night at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut, following a medical emergency.

CPR was administered, and Fatman Scoop was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett shared a statement on Facebook, saying, “Tonight, while performing at Hamden Town Center Park, Isaac Freeman, aka Fatman Scoop, had a medical emergency on stage. He is being transported by ambulance to the hospital. We will provide updates when they are available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

The hip-hop community immediately began lifting Isaac up in prayer.

Sadly, Freeman’s tour manager, Birch Michael (aka Pure Cold), confirmed his passing via social media.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts I announce the passing of Isaac Freeman III, known professionally as Fatman Scoop. You taught me how to be the man I am today. I love you, Scoop. Thank you so much for everything you gave to me,” he wrote.

In the caption of his post, Birch added:

“I am honestly lost for words… You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet. The things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today. Thank you so much, I love you x.”
