Comedian Chris Redd was attacked and robbed on Wednesday night in New York City outside of the Comedy Cellar.
According to law enforcement, Chris was scheduled to perform that night and pulled up to the venue in Greenwich Village around 9:40 p.m.
When he got out of the car, a man dressed in a security uniform ran up to Chris, hit him in the face and snatched his Greg Yuna chain.
Note: Page Six is reporting there were two men, who appeared to have waited for Chris outside of the venue for about an hour before the assault.
Cops who were patrolling the area quickly responded to the scene but the assailant was long gone.
Chris Redd suffered a deep cut to his nose and people nearby quickly rendered aid until he was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.
The 37-year-old “Saturday Night Live” alum was treated and released.
It’s unclear if Chris went through with the scheduled performance.
The good news is that the links on the Greg Yuna chain come apart, the chain disassembled when the attacker snatched it and Chris was able to retrieve it.
I’m glad Chris Redd wasn’t seriously hurt in this senseless act of violence.
In more positive news, the official trailer for “Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?” was released.
In his first one-hour stand-up comedy special, Chris returns to his hometown of St. Louis to highlight pivotal parts of his life that made him into the person he is today.
Redd’s comedic stylings explore his days of living like Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” music video, realizing he’d been chasing someone else’s dreams — the NBA, “SNL,” and becoming the next Notorious B.I.G., and how his therapist taught him that even if he’ll never be tall enough to dunk, he can still grow as a person.
Be sure to add “Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?” to your November watch list.
