An Indiana Uber driver has been accused of the horrific crime of raping and murdering Chanti Dixon, a young mother of two, after she requested a ride home from work.
Francisco Valadez was taken into custody after the body of 30-year-old Dixon was tragically found on Monday, September 9, according to a statement from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigators believe Chanti Dixon was killed in the early hours of September 8, and her body was found in a nearby wooded area the following day.
Valadez became a prime suspect after community members provided crucial assistance, leading to his arrest.
Authorities allege that Valadez, a rideshare driver, picked up Dixon before the deadly encounter.
Court documents reveal disturbing details.
According to a probable cause affidavit reported by ABC News, WISH, and WTHR, Valadez initially gave conflicting stories, but later allegedly admitted to fatally shooting Chanti Dixon while attempting to sexually assault her in the back of his vehicle.
As of now, it remains unclear whether formal charges have been filed against Valadez or if he has secured legal representation.
The affidavit also highlights Valadez’s initial claim that he had dropped Dixon off and that a man had attempted to rob her, shooting her in the leg.
However, police say he later confessed after being brought in for questioning.
“Women, girls, mothers have a right to exist freely in our community without fear of something heinous happening to them,” stated Indianapolis Assistant Police Chief Catherine Cummings in a powerful statement to ABC News. “This is a family’s worst nightmare, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family during this trying time.”
Chanti Dixon leaves behind two children, ages 13 and 10, according to a GoFundMe set up by her sister to support the grieving family.
