Boy George is dishing on his life and career in his newly-released memoir, “Karma,” including an unsavory encounter with Janet Jackson many moons ago.
The former Culture Club singer wrote in his autobiography, “When it comes to me and Janet, let’s wait a while.”
George and Janet met back in the 80s on the set of “Solid Gold” and he approached her “without my face on.”
“She wasn’t friendly and didn’t try to be. But I just walked off and got myself into my best ‘Boy George’ and was walking around backstage to make sure I was seen by everyone.”
Someone in Janet Jackson’s crew approached Boy George with a video camera and asked him to record a message for her and he recalls saying, “Next time you meet someone, be nice.”
Later, George was ushered into Janet’s dressing room where she admitted she didn’t recognize him earlier.
“‘Are you saying you would have been nice to me if you knew who I was?’ We parted on awkward terms,” he wrote.
Boy George and Janet Jackson ran into each other years later on the U.K. TV show, “Top of the Pops,” and she paid him dust.
“She looked straight through me,” he added.
When chatting with People about his new memoir, Boy George said he fully understands he may have to face people he’s written about in his book, but he’s standing on business and the truth.
When you write a book like this, there’s a chance you’re going to bump into someone that you’ve written about.
I have to say what I’ve written about people is the truth of what happened and how they behaved.
So I’m kind of comfortable with that.
I’m always someone who’s prepared to bury the hatchet because there’s always another opportunity to be different.
But, even at the age of 62, his petty has longevity when it comes to Damita Jo.
Boy George said, “At this point, there’s certain people I’m never gonna be friends with unless a miracle happens — and I guess I put her [Janet Jackson] in that category.”
I’m sure Janet Jackson isn’t losing a wink of sleep over his friendship.
