If you think you’ve seen every type of war movie, think again. B. Gunn, our resident movie guru at IceCreamConvos.com, caught an advanced screening of Warfare, and his reaction?

This film hits different.
Directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and visionary filmmaker Alex Garland (Civil War, 28 Years Later), Warfare tells the story of a Navy SEAL platoon embedded in an Iraqi family’s home, monitoring U.S. military movements from deep within insurgent territory.
The cast is stacked—from D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai and Will Poulter to Charles Melton and Joseph Quinn—and the story unfolds in real time, drawn from the memories of the soldiers and civilians who lived through it.
But what really shook B. Gunn? The sound design.
There’s no score—just raw, immersive audio that puts you right in the crossfire.
“You can hear and feel the bullets,” he says. “The screams? Excruciating. This is next-level realism.”
He calls the movie “tension-filled,” “authentic,” and says it turns the typical extraction film on its head with intensity that skyrockets in just minutes.
B. Gunn is this close to giving Warfare a classic co-sign—and if you know B., that’s not something he gives lightly.
