Wendy Williams, the former talk show host known for her vibrant personality and candid style, is facing a severe health crisis, according to her legal guardian.
In a court filing dated November 12, attorneys for Sabrina Morrissey revealed that the 60-year-old star has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia — the same conditions actor Bruce Willis is battling.
They describe her as “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and incapacitated.”
Legal Battle Over Lifetime Documentary
Morrissey is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Lifetime over their documentary, “Where Is Wendy Williams?“, which aired in February.
The lawsuit alleges that the defendants — including A&E Television Networks, Lifetime Entertainment Services, and others involved in the production — exploited Williams’ declining health.
The filing accuses them of “manipulating and goading” her during production to provoke emotional reactions and secure humiliating footage at a time when she was “highly vulnerable and incapable of consenting to be filmed.”
The defendants counter that Williams provided her “consent, input, and participation” before her dementia diagnosis and the establishment of her court-ordered guardianship in May 2022.
Morrissey and the defendants are pushing for a trial expected to last two to four weeks.
Guardianship & Health Challenges
Since 2022, Wendy Williams has been under a court-ordered guardianship managing her health and finances after Wells Fargo flagged her as “incapacitated.”
Beyond her dementia diagnosis, she has faced other significant health battles, including Graves’ disease, lymphedema, and addiction struggles with alcohol and cocaine.
Williams’ family shared with People that she resides in a care facility and only calls her loved ones occasionally.
They expressed concerns for her well-being, particularly as legal disputes surrounding her name and legacy continue to unfold.
Wendy Williams’ Lifetime Documentary Sparks Backlash
Morrissey initially filed her lawsuit in September, alleging that the Lifetime documentary humiliated and exploited Wendy Williams.
The defendants responded with countersuits, moving the case to federal court.
Morrissey’s legal team has also requested the court redact sensitive details about Williams’ health, family, and finances to protect her privacy.
The Legacy of Wendy Williams
Wendy Williams rose to fame as the host of “The Wendy Williams Show”, which aired from 2008 to 2022.
While her personal life has been fraught with challenges, her impact on pop culture and daytime television remains undeniable.
As legal battles wage on, fans continue to send love and support to Williams, hoping she finds peace and proper care during this challenging time.
