Tyler Perry To Receive The Paley Honors Award

The Paley Center for Media is set to honor the legendary Tyler Perry with its highest accolade, The Paley Honors award, at their fall gala in Los Angeles.

The prestigious event will take place on Wednesday, December 4, at 6:30 pm at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Tyler Perry, a multi-talented actor, writer, director, producer, studio owner, and philanthropist, has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

Over his illustrious career, Perry has produced over 2,000 episodes of television and directed, written, and produced 28 feature films.

His journey began with writing plays, many of which served as inspiration for his films.

He has since gone on to create bold characters, relatable stories, and blockbuster franchises, including the iconic Madea.

Tyler is not only a creative force but also a business leader and philanthropist.

In 2019, he celebrated the historic opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, marking a significant milestone in his career.

“Throughout my career, I have strived to bring people together and to give a voice to those often underrepresented in media,” said Perry. “Media has served as a vital platform for this mission, and I’m honored to receive this award from The Paley Center for Media, an organization that has dedicated itself to spotlighting the power and importance of media.”

With each new project, he continues to move our industry, and our culture, forward, and it is our great privilege to present Tyler with our highest honor, The Paley Honors Award, on December 4.”

The Paley Honors Tribute Host Committee boasts some of Tyler Perry’s closest friends, colleagues, and contemporaries, including Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Ariel Emanuel, Jon Feltheimer, Whoopi Goldberg, Taraji P. Henson, Matt Johnson, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Gayle King, Debra L. Lee, Mellody Hobson and George Lucas, Scott Mills, The Honorable Nicole Avant and Ted Sarandos, and Kerry Washington.

In addition to The Paley Honors Award, Perry has received numerous accolades, including the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2021 Oscars and the Governors Award at the 2020 Emmys.

His career continues to flourish with a multiyear first-look deal with Netflix to write, direct, and produce features and television, and a four-picture film deal with Amazon.

Amazon also released a documentary about his life, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, in 2023.

Moreover, Tyler recently extended his exclusive multi-year linear and streaming content partnership agreement with the BET Media Group, which includes seven current original Tyler Perry dramas and comedies.

He also holds an equity interest in the BET+ streaming service.

As Tyler Perry steps into the spotlight once more, this time at the Paley Center’s fall gala, the world watches in admiration of his incredible journey and the profound impact he has made on media and culture.
