BET+ has greenlit the biopic “The First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story.”

Tonesa Welch was the longtime girlfriend of Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, the co-founder of the Black Mafia Family (BMF), a notorious drug trafficking organization that operated in the United States from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s.

The biopic tells the story of Tonesa’s rise from teen mom to drug dealer to being labeled by federal prosecutors as “The First Lady of BMF.”

Dreams and desires, craftiness and creativity, hustle and hard work, Tonesa Welch tells a harrowing story about riches, remorse, personal responsibility, and redemption set amidst the lavishness and extreme violence of Detroit’s crack era and America’s “war on drugs.”

Vivica A. Fox has been tapped to direct the biopic, which is executive produced by Judge Greg Mathis, Tressa Azarel Smallwood, Donte Lee, and Delece James.

Key aspects of Tonesa Welch’s life are depicted in Season 2 of the hit Starz series, “BMF.” with the character MarKisha Taylor, played by La La Anthony.

Tonesa took to social media to share her outrage over how she is being portrayed in the series.

She wrote:

WTF who wrote this part of the Story?

Terri 17 I’m 26 years my Husband a king pen but I’m having sex with a 17-year-old who’s supposedly still in high school. So before Terri goes on the run he comes to my job, it’s closed for the day we sneak in the janitor’s room and have Sex.

I guess he’s too young to have an apartment he’s still in high school or lives with his parents. I guess they have Markisha looking like a pedophile if This was reversed and Markisha was 17 years old y’all be trying to put him in jail.

Why are they portraying this role like this? Omg Randy Huggins this is sad. I never kiss this man until he was 25 years old.

This is crazy 🤦🏾🗣 This is what happens when you hire the wrong representative.

Please no more DM’s don’t ask me why I can’t explain it. But half y’all believe this sick shtt.

Markisha character is shown in bad likeness I don’t agree with the timeline or the character traits.

This show pretends it’s not me but everybody in Detroit or half the country know it’s me. Who else work at the insurance company? 🤦🏾🤦🏾

Tonesha Welch also explains why they didn’t use her real name in the show.

People keep asking me why they didn’t use my name? But they clearly use the story of my past.

They made up stories about Terry and Meech relationship with their children mothers, why be so close to my character if you clearly didn’t want me to be involved?

I think if I have to watch a character play out my past @lala she’s a very beautiful woman it would of truly been a honor, if we could of gotten to know me, and who I was back then.

@starz you don’t get to exploit my abuse, the Trauma what I suffered that was not your story or Terry story You don’t used the traumas of my past what happen with me and my ex was our history our past. It took me years to work through the trauma Years of working on me. That’s my story.

Y’all made up everyone else’s story but use mine, that wasn’t fair to me or my family. Me and my father car company that was his legacy and yes I got those contracts from the airport. For our car company. What I feel about the writing? What y’all feel? Y’all want to know why they use my story?

They clearly was in the writers rooms telling them “I got the no fly zone “ ask them. Why a government informant gets to eat off my blood sweat and tears?

I can’t answer any of these questions. I’m not mad or bitter! little hurt maybe because I know what was said about me to those exec. In those meetings.

So When people ask me , I can’t explain. But what I do know “God” has something great for me.

Keep watching. #iammarkishataylor @starz it’s business #queen #markishataylor #bmf #starz #mylife #blessed #grace #glory #tv #series #family

Tonesha also added that she has had convos with 50 Cent about the series.

I had contracts I had many convos with 50. The family didn’t want me involved it was so much BS they ask that my name not be mention or my story to be told.

I can respect that this is not my story. But when I walk away, I ask respectfully not to use my story. If you even seen or felt the bullying I went through why would you use any parts of my life… It’s so many parts of this story that’s not true.

Why use my story that’s the question? That car company (Sedan Service) was me and my dads company I did go get the Contracts from the Airport. Terry and his father did not own that company.

My abuse happened in my previous relationship not with Terry I have no issues with (Harold) I forgiving him.

That’s my son father they don’t get to degrade him to make their story great. why write that into their story. Lala character is me.

But they fought so hard for me not to be involved but clearly couldn’t do it without me. I respected them where’s my respect I’m living.

When Terry met me I didn’t bring (p) I bought a (bag) I ask him not to use my story I ask Randy please do not write me in this story.

I Told my lawyer to put them on notice contracts were written. But that’s another issue that I have to deal with. And your not clearly factual on what your saying but it’s cool 🤷🏽‍♀️

To be fair, “BMF” airs a disclaimer on every episode that reads:

The story you’re about to see is loosely based on truth. Some of the names, characters, businesses, and events have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes. But, a lot of this sh*t may have actually happened.

Tonesa Welch is elated to have the opportunity to have her life story told in a way that she sees fit.

Production on “The First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story” is set to begin in April in Washington, D.C., and will debut on BET+ later this year.

Are you looking forward to watching the biopic when it arrives on BET+?
