Taylor, who plays Kimmie, a character whose journey from the trauma of sex trafficking to empowerment is as complex as it is compelling, opened up about her role, the show’s success, and how her personal experiences shape her craft.

Taylor shared how surreal it feels to be part of such a groundbreaking project, especially given her journey in the industry.

“It feels good, but I think on a more personal level, as an artist, you can’t focus too much on how something is received. I can only measure my success by whether I gave it my all on set,” she said.

And, judging by the overwhelming fan reactions, it’s clear Taylor and the cast nailed it.

Her character, Kimmie, has resonated deeply with viewers, sparking memes and emotional responses alike. “When people walk up to me and share how much they were moved, I know I did my job,” she added.

The role of Kimmie isn’t just an acting challenge—it’s a responsibility.

Playing a character who is trafficked and forced into stripping was a daunting task.

“I learned so much about human trafficking and how easy it is to be manipulated into thinking you have control when, in reality, you’re trapped,” Taylor explained.

She also highlighted the importance of authenticity in portraying the trauma and strength of women like Kimmie, noting how she worked hard to portray her story with the respect it deserved.

A Journey Of Growth: From Shy Texas Girl To Leading Lady

Taylor’s path to acting began at just 14 years old, and though she’s faced her fair share of challenges along the way, including a heartbreaking rejection as a teen due to colorism, her resilience shines through.

“That moment was a turning point for me,” she said. “I realized that what’s meant for me will come to me, regardless of what others think. You just have to keep moving forward.”

Taylor’s career has evolved from early roles to starring on Tyler Perry‘s “Beauty in Black,” with a clear dream of continuing to break barriers.

She even shared her desire to play real-life legends like Chaka Khan in a biopic.

Taylor’s journey is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the power of staying true to oneself.

But beyond the spotlight, she’s also passionate about giving back, serving as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) for youth in foster care.

“I’ve seen firsthand the difference a dedicated advocate can make,” she told me, reflecting on the legacy of her late grandmother, a foster parent and child advocate.

This is just a glimpse of our conversation—Taylor’s insight into her career, her role in “Beauty in Black,” and her advocacy work will leave you inspired.
