Storm Reid has officially announced her departure from “Euphoria” ahead of its highly anticipated third season.
The 20-year-old actress, who played Gia, the younger sister of Zendaya’s Rue, revealed the news during an interview with Rotten Tomatoes at the Governors Awards red carpet.
“I’m very excited for Season 3,” Reid shared.
“Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I am so, so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show, to HBO. Euphoria’s a really special thing, and I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy and that I was a part of such a cultural phenomenon. I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has in store.”
While HBO has declined to comment on Reid’s departure, her heartfelt message reflects the profound impact the show had on her career and its cultural significance.
What’s Next for “Euphoria”?
Production on Season 3 of “Euphoria” is set to kick off in January 2025 after facing several delays.
Earlier this month, HBO’s Casey Bloys confirmed the show is moving forward, stating, “We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors are in the show.”
The upcoming season will consist of eight episodes and features an ensemble cast, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Colman Domingo, Alexa Demie, Eric Dane, Maude Apatow, Dominic Fike, and Javon Walton.
However, Reid isn’t the only notable exit from the series.
Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat, announced her departure in April 2023, citing creative differences regarding her character’s storyline.
Storm Reid’s Growing Resume
While fans will miss seeing Reid in Euphoria, the actress continues to build an impressive career.
She stars in HBO’s “The Last of Us” and has appeared in critically acclaimed projects like A Wrinkle in Time, Sleight, and Missing.
“Euphoria” Season 3 is one of the most awaited TV returns, and while it won’t include Reid’s Gia, fans can look forward to an emotionally charged continuation of the series.
