Legendary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph took to the internet to encourage folks over the age of 40 to respect the pronouns of others.
Speaking in her soothing and motherly voice, the “Abbott Elementary” star said:
Some of the things you used to do and say when you were young—they’re not going to work right now, okay?
These children right now…they want to be called by their name. They want to be respected with their pronouns.
Sheryl Lee Ralph acknowledged that it may be a challenge for some:
It might even be more difficult for some folks when maybe they don’t look like a he or a she to you, but they want to be called ‘they,’ ‘him,’ or ‘her.’
In closing, Sheryl said, “Call them by their name, please.”
Don’t call them out of their name. You know how you get when people call you out of your name. Don’t do it. Alright?
