Hip-hop fans are in for a treat as Flavor Unit Entertainment, Westbrook Studios, and Jesse Collins Entertainment join forces to bring a slate of biopics about iconic hip-hop legends to life. Leading this exciting new venture is none other than Queen Latifah herself, with the first film focusing on her extraordinary rise to fame.
Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere will produce the biopic under their Flavor Unit Entertainment banner.
Powerhouses Will Smith and Miguel Melendez will take the helm for Westbrook Studios, while Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon, known for producing music biopics like “The New Edition Story” and “The Bobby Brown Story,” will represent Jesse Collins Entertainment.
Industry veteran Charlie Mack will also lend his talents as a producer on the project.
The ambitious biopic series will be independently financed by HarbourView Equity Partners, a company that boasts a portfolio of over 70+ music catalogs featuring thousands of titles across various genres and eras.
This partnership opens the door to exciting development opportunities beyond just the Queen Latifah project.
In a joint statement, Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere shared their enthusiasm for the venture, saying, “We all came into this industry together, and hip-hop has shaped each and every one of us. Its impact has expanded beyond just music and left a lasting mark on culture and society overall. Collaborating with longtime friends and colleagues to tell these pivotal stories is a dream come true.”

It’s an honor to partner with these incredible teams to document Queen Latifah’s journey and her undeniable impact on the world.”
