Starz has announced the renewal of its hit drama series “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” for a fifth season. 

Following the explosive conclusion of its third season, the show is currently filming its fourth season in New York.

Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for Starz, expressed excitement about the show’s continuation.

We know that our fans can’t get enough of ‘Raising Kanan.’ As the inevitable evolution of this young man into a killer plays out, we knew we had much more backstory to share in this ever-escalating family saga.

Busby noted the expansion of storytelling within the Power universe and the potential for intersections with other beloved characters during this prequel era.

Additionally, Starz revealed plans for a new prequel series titled “Origins,” exploring the backstory of fan-favorite characters Ghost and Tommy.

This marks the fourth spin-off of the immensely popular “Power” series, preceded by “Power Book II: Ghost,” “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” and “Power Book IV: Force,” currently in its third season in Chicago.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan” delves into the early life of Kanan Stark, portrayed by 50 Cent in the flagship series, tracing his journey from a naive teenager to a ruthless antagonist. 

All episodes from the first three seasons are available for streaming on the Starz app and other Starz platforms.

Michael Rainey Jr., known for his role in “Power Book II: Ghost,” shared his reaction on social media to the renewal of “Raising Kanan.”

This news arrives nearly two weeks after Starz announced the fourth and final season of his own show.

Michael responded to Starz’s announcement post writing, “Oh y’all flexin huh 😂🔥🔥.”

Set in the early 1990s, the series follows Kanan Stark’s entry into the criminal world under the guidance of his mother, who oversees the family’s drug empire. 

Season three concluded with a gripping showdown between Kanan and Raq, featuring surprising twists and character returns. 

The series stars MeKai Curtis as Kanan, Patina Miller as his mother Raq, and features a talented ensemble cast: Omar Epps as “Detective Malcolm Howard,” London Brown as “Marvin Thomas,” Malcolm Mays as “Lou-Lou Thomas,” Hailey Kilgore as “Jukebox,” Joey Bada$$ as “Unique,” Shanley Caswell as “Detective Burke” and Antonio Ortiz as “Famous.”

Creator Sascha Penn will return as showrunner and executive producer for the fifth season, alongside executive producers Courtney A. Kemp, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Mark Canton. 

Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz.
