Kim Glass suffered multiple fractures and injuries to her face after she was attacked in broad daylight over the weekend by a man she described as homeless, enraged, and mentally ill.
In a video posted on her Instagram Story, the Olympic volleyball standout detailed the attack that took place in Los Angeles on Saturday (July 9), where she had just had lunch with a friend.
Kim shared that she noticed the seemingly homeless man when he ran up on the other side of a car they were near and began acting erratically.
As she tried to alert her friend of the homeless man, he threw a metal pipe that struck her in the face causing multiple cuts and fractures to her right eye and nose.
She recalled in the Instagram video:
He just like looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes.
Before I knew it, a big metal bolt hit me right here and here.
Kim Glass, who played for Team USA in Beijing in the 2008 Olympics, thanked everyone for the outpouring of love and support.
She also took a moment to remind everyone to “be safe out there, keep your head on a swivel, off your phones. There’s a lot of mentally ill people on these streets right now.”
The good news is despite how bad it looks, Kim says her vision will be okay.
She even joked about her lashes staying on throughout the ordeal.

Sending up prayers for Kim’s full and speedy recovery.
