Nicolas Cage will portray the “Tiger King” Joe Exotic in a forthcoming scripted series.
According to Variety, the eight-episode series is based on the Texas Monthly article, “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.
The yet to be titled series is being produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.
The story centers around Joe Schreibvogel, a.k.a Joe Exotic, an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.
Nicolas Cage will executive produce and star in the series.
The success of Netflix’s “Tiger King” series has sparked multiple projects based on Joe Exotic, who is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for charges including attempting to hire hitmen to kill his rival, big cat sanctuary owner Carole Baskin.
