Nick Cannon is breaking barriers with his openness about mental health.
The 44-year-old “Masked Singer” host recently revealed his diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), shedding light on his personal journey and commitment to self-improvement.
In a heartfelt interview with PEOPLE on November 27, while serving meals at the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving celebration, Cannon shared, “I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested for it. I did a bunch of tests.”
The actor and father of 12 has long been aware of his neurodivergent tendencies.
“I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD. Even as a kid it was dyslexia, but just knowing that I’m just a neurodivergent individual, I kind of always knew,” Nick Cannon added.
Cannon, who first discussed his NPD diagnosis on the November 8 episode of his Counsel Culture podcast, is taking a proactive approach to his mental health.
During the episode, he spoke with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, a Doctor of Psychology, and confirmed his clinical diagnosis.
He even acknowledged identifying with most of the “markers” for the disorder.
“I’ve taken all the power away from the term narcissism because I’ve researched it and I understand it,” Cannon explained. “Call me whatever you want… now if I didn’t know what it was, then I’d have an issue with it.”
Nick Cannon is embracing therapy and mental health awareness as a cornerstone of his journey.
“To be able to say, ‘I’m healing. I need help. Show me,’ is powerful,” he said. “I embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way, not just for myself but as an example for others.”
Family First For The Holidays
Despite his packed schedule, Cannon is dedicated to spending time with his 12 children.
“Thanksgiving is a busy day for me,” he admitted. “I’m visiting multiple homes, enjoying everything from sweet potato pie to fried turkey. Every house has something special I look forward to.”
Looking ahead to December, Nick Cannon is gearing up for holiday adventures with his kids.
“All the kids want to see snow, so we’ll be hitting everywhere from Aspen to Santa’s Village,” he said, with plans to visit destinations like Big Bear and the East Coast.
