About ‘New York Undercover’

Airing from 1994 to 1999 on Fox, “New York Undercover” captured the hearts of audiences with its gripping narratives and diverse cast, setting new standards for inclusivity and authenticity in the genre.

At its core, “New York Undercover” revolved around the lives of two undercover detectives, J.C. Williams portrayed by Malik Yoba, and Eddie Torres played by Michael DeLorenzo.

Together, they navigated the gritty streets of New York City, delving into the complexities of crime and justice while grappling with personal and societal challenges.

What set the series apart was its commitment to showcasing a wide range of perspectives and experiences, making it one of the first procedurals to feature Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) actors in leading roles.

Throughout its run, “New York Undercover” fearlessly tackled pressing social issues, from the intricacies of parenthood to the pervasive realities of racism, sexism, and drug abuse.

By weaving these themes into its narrative fabric, the show not only entertained audiences but also sparked important conversations about the state of society and the need for change.

Congratulations on the 30th anniversary!
