Victor Wembanyama, the #1 overall draft pick in the 2023 NBA draft, recently responded to allegations that the head of his security detail smacked Britney Spears in the face.
The incident took place outside Catch restaurant in Las Vegas on Wednesday (July 5).
According to Victor Wembanyama (Wemby), he was walking into a restaurant with team security, and he heard a person calling him, but he didn’t stop because his security advised him not to because it would make a crowd.
He said the person that was calling him grabbed him from behind, not on his shoulders, and his security pushed her away, but he’s not sure how much force they used.
He said he didn’t stop to look. He just kept walking and enjoyed a nice dinner.
He said he didn’t know it was Britney Spears until he returned to his hotel after dinner.

Britney Spears took to her Instagram to give her account of what happened.
Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for whot happened to me last night. I recognized an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner. I later went to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again. I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success. It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. I am aware of the players statement where he mentions ‘I grabbed him from behind’ but I simply tapped him on the shoulder. His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses off my face.
I get swarmed by people all the time. In fact, that night, I was swarmed by a group of at least 20 fans. My security team didn’t hit any of them.
