We have a real opportunity to put Rita at the forefront.
Not taking over, but just being that warm presence in the back or the side of Bob…always chiming in, always having something, you know, always uplifting the room and elevating the space.
Lashana witnessed firsthand the depth of Rita Marley’s love for Bob.
When speaking about him, Rita lit up like a teenager, despite being in her 70s.
The way in which she responds to that name ‘Bob’ is something that was completely unanticipated when speaking with her.
It’s clear that Bob’s presence still fills her heart, even though he’s physically gone.
This love informed how Lashana portrayed their relationship in the film.
The way that she feels that love – it feels like it just always takes her back to when they were young and it really informed how I threaded that love throughout the scenes.
Regarding self-care, Lashana Lynch adjusts her process for each role.
Peace, quiet, and being on her own terms are essential.
Peace, quiet, really doing things on my own terms, and not being on a schedule.
Not being on a shooting schedule, not having anywhere to be, not having someone to call.
Just being away from things that aren’t a part of the energy space that are protecting me and my mental health and my spiritual health and my physical health.
As a self-proclaimed “pajama kinda gal,” Lashana finds solace in being at home or in spaces that feel like home.
