Joe Budden is trending, and it has absolutely nothing to do with his podcast.

On December 4, the retired “Pump It Up” rapper turned “Podfather” was charged with lewdness (disorderly persons offense) on a complaint summons after he was captured on a doorbell camera completely naked in his apartment hallway at 7:21 a.m.

According to an Edgewater Police Department press release from Chief of Police Donald A. Martin, the EPD was dispatched to an apartment complex after a resident reported that a man was standing outside of their door completely naked.


The caller recognized the neighbor as 44-year-old Joseph Budden Jr.

The doorbell camera allegedly captured video of Joe attempting to enter a code into the door keypad several times before he went back into his own apartment across the hall.

As a result of the police investigation, Joe Budden was charged with lewdness.

The Impact On The Joe Budden Podcast


Following the bizarre incident, Joe Budden was absent from the JBP for multiple episodes.

Upon his return, he briefly addressed his personal matter without going into much detail.

Joe told his co-hosts:

I slept walked somewhere that I shouldn’t have slept walked. You know how I sleep?

Butta**! Butta**! A nice naked a** good naked sleepwalker. I just did it again!

Nobody could go through this stuff but me. It’s only me.

You gotta deal with what comes with that.

It appears Joe Budden’s lewdness incident may be the reason why the podcast was forced to return to its old recording space.

However, during a recent episode, Joe said his personal issue had nothing to do with the podcast relocation.

Joe’s Attorney Speaks Out

Joe’s attorney, Nima Ameri, Esq., of Ameri Law Firm, addressed his charges and the police chief’s decision to release a detailed statement about the incident.

She told TMZ:

Mr. Budden is saddened by Police Chief Martin’s press release.

Mr. Budden has been waiting weeks for his cross complaints to be processed which include substantially more serious charges, including possible felony charges against the persons behind these charges against him.

The Chief has in our opinion sat on those but instead used his time to gain some free publicity for himself. Chief Martin should seek publicity by doing notable policing not inflaming disorderly person allegations.

The allegations against Mr. Budden are a minor charge, not even resulting in an arrest. A charge Mr. Budden is looking forward to beating in court on the merits, not in the press.

The Chief’s comments are reckless, and in our opinion racially motivated. Our research has not shown a single press release on a disorderly person charge on the police website this year.

His choice to single out Mr. Budden in our opinion is self-motivated and based off of Mr. Budden’s race and celebrity status.
