James Van Der Beek has publicly apologized to his family after a tabloid prematurely revealed his diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

The beloved “Dawson’s Creek” star took to social media to share his heartfelt sentiments, expressing his disappointment over the invasion of his privacy.

In his candid post, the 47-year-old actor and father of six, explained that he had intended to share this personal news on his own terms and in a more controlled manner.

“There’s no playbook for how to announce these things, but I’d planned on discussing it at length with People magazine soon… to raise awareness and share my story in my own way,” he wrote.

James assured fans that he is currently receiving treatment and prioritizing his health like never before.

“I’m in a good place and feeling strong. It’s been quite the initiation, and I’ll share more when I’m ready,” he added.

The actor expressed regret over losing the opportunity to tell his loved ones about his diagnosis on his own timeline.

“Apologies to all the people in my life whom I’d planned on telling myself. Nothing about this process has occurred on my preferred timeline… But we roll with it, taking each surprise as a signpost, pointing us toward a greater destiny than we would have discovered without divine intervention,” he wrote.

For those unfamiliar with colorectal cancer, it develops in the lower end of the digestive tract, typically starting as noncancerous growths known as polyps.

Health experts recommend regular screenings (a colonoscopy) for individuals at high risk or over the age of 45, as early detection can significantly improve outcomes.

Symptoms of colorectal cancer can vary based on the size and location of the tumor, with common indicators including blood in the stool, abdominal discomfort, and changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation.

Treatment options depend on the cancer’s size, location, and progression, often involving surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy.

Let’s come together to send prayers, love, and positive energy to James Van Der Beek and his family during this challenging time.
