Tyrese stopped by “The Breakfast Club” to promote his new music, discuss his ex-wife Samantha Lee, and mend his relationship with Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy.
You may recall that a few years ago, the R&B crooner and Fast X star was wilding on social media and displaying erratic and bizarre behavior.
Tyrese would later blame his behavior on the use of Rexulti, a medication used to treat depression and schizophrenia.
Unfortunately, the “Sweet Lady” singer’s behavior also strained and damaged relationships with his friends – including Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy.
Let me give you a little background on this…
DJ Envy Got Caught Cheating With Erica Mena
In 2013, DJ Envy took to the New York airwaves to publicly apologize to his wife after he was outed for cheating with “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” star Erica Mena.
He said in part:
I started messing with somebody that was beneath me. A bird. Evil. A liar. Somebody that was desperate and it’s just so pathetic. I mean I didn’t have to feed this person. I didn’t have to make her feel special because she wasn’t. So that’s what it was.

Erica later spoke on the affair during an interview with VIBE Vixen saying:
DJ Envy’s definitely talking about me, but I’m one of many. I was under the assumption that he had kids but wasn’t actually married. I found out around the time that I started filming ‘Love & Hip-Hop.’
After I found out, I was still in shock because we were together for so long. I didn’t understand how he could take a vow as serious as marriage and take on a whole other relationship.
It’s sad that now he’s taking all these shots saying I’m a liar and I’m pathetic, when he deceived me. It’s not fair to paint me out as a liar when he was leading a double life for many years.
He’s never publicly come out with his wife until now because he’s ashamed of her. It’s no secret.
Envy’s wife, Gia Casey, said she found out about the affair when she Googled his name to see photos from his recent photoshoot.
After his affair was exposed and he was on the verge of losing Gia, DJ Envy allegedly threatened to unalive himself.
Tyrese Helped Save DJ Envy’s Marriage
Tyrese heard DJ Envy’s public apology and reached out to him.
The two of them worked together to plan a special surprise for Gia at a restaurant.
After serenading Gia, Tyrese sat with the couple for four hours and counseled them.
Ungrateful?
During the interview, there was a moment where things got awkward when Tyrese said DJ Envy after Charlamagne stirred the pot by saying Envy didn’t appear to appreciate Tyrese’s gesture “as much as he should.”
Tyrese quickly and seriously responded, “He don’t.”
Envy said, “Of course,” he appreciates what the singer did for his marriage.
“I don’t feel like you do,” Tyrese added.
Tyrese continued:
Before I even got here…what Charlamagne just said is true. I don’t feel…and you got to keep in mind – I look at it as heavenly deposits.
When you do things for people and you’re not saying, ‘I’m going to do this because I want this out of it…like the most uncomfortable part of my day thus far is just listening to Envy tell that story.
Because I didn’t do it to be applauded for it. I didn’t do it because I knew that they were going to write their book together about it or be doing interviews about it.
It was literally an assignment.
Tyrese added, “This is the part I don’t appreciate about Envy…is when Tyrese’s divorce comes across y’all headline…when the captions associated to the things that come across y’all desk…where is that same heart and love that I extended to you that you could extend to me?“
DJ Envy Reveals Tyrese Disrespected His Wife Gia Casey
DJ Envy quickly broke up Tyrese’s pity party by letting him know why he wasn’t there for him during his divorce from Samantha Lee.
He began by calling out the singer for his hypocrisy.
You know what I’ve been through and you know how I’ve changed as a man and as a person and you were there for it – you was a brother for it.
But, then when I look at my brother and saying what he’s telling me to do and how he’s telling me to live – he’s not living that way. I don’t respect it.
Tyrese blamed his behavior on Rexulti and said that he doesn’t remember anything he said while on the meds.
DJ Envy also went on to share that he stepped away from Tyrese after he disrespected Gia.
Tyrese noted that he never took a step back from Envy, who replied, “But, I never talked to your wife in a disrespectful manner and you talked to mine in a disrespectful manner.”
Envy continued, “And I never told nobody that and you can say you were on those psych meds and you can say that you weren’t, but as a man some of the things that you said Tyrese deserved for me to box your mouth!”
“You said disrespectful s**t to my wife to the point where my wife doesn’t call you back anymore.”
DJ Envy went on to say he just unblocked Tyrese’s number about a month ago after Charlamagne told him about the psych meds.
Tyrese said he prayed for people not to hold against him the things that he’s said and done when he was literally “out of his mind.”
