First the Fat Boys break up…Now, Desus & Mero are calling it quits!
After an epic run, the comedy duo is splitting up to pursue their own endeavors.
Showtime has announced their late-night comedy series is also coming to an end.
A spokesperson for the network said, “Desus Nice and The Kid Mero will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward.”
“Desus Nice and The Kid Mero have made a name for themselves in comedy and in the late-night space as quick-witted cultural commentators,” the spokesperson added.
“Throughout its run, the series won a WGA Award, received Critics’ Choice and TCA Award nominations and scored interviews with President Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Derek Jeter, Missy Elliott, Denzel Washington, Charlize Theron, David Letterman, Yo-Yo Ma and many more.”
In closing, the Showtime spokesperson wished them well saying, “They have been brilliant hosts, and we wish them the best, along with the team at JAX Media and the incredible crew.”
The Season 4 finale aired on Thursday, June 23, and will now serve as the official series finale.
The official Twitter account for the show confirmed the news by tweeting, “It’s been a good run, fam.”
Desus & Mero have been trending in the streets of Twitter all day as the Bodega Hive reacts with shock and sadness to the news of their split.
One person tweeted, “When ppl are like “I don’t believe in love anymore” after a celebrity breakup I always call them dramatic but this Desus and Mero sh*t rlly got me clutching my chest and sliding down the walls.”
Someone else shared the impact the duo had on her writing, “Desus and Mero’s come up meant a lot to me because they sounded like the boys I grew up going to school with, the ones who would cause a ruckus on the back of the BX19 bus. They felt relatable when NY media insisted on being alien and distant from working-class New York.”
