Apple TV+ is serving up something fresh with the upcoming series “Government Cheese,” a surrealist family comedy starring the incredible David Oyelowo, who also serves as an executive producer.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 16, 2025, when the first four episodes of the 10-episode series drop globally on Apple TV+.
After the premiere, new episodes will roll out weekly every Wednesday until May 28, 2025.
Joining Oyelowo in this quirky adventure are Simone Missick (All Rise), Jahi Di’Allo Winston (Charm City Kings), and Evan Ellison (Euphoria), creating a dynamic ensemble cast that’s bound to bring the Chambers family to life.
About ‘Government Cheese’
Set in 1969 in the San Fernando Valley, “Government Cheese” tells the unconventional story of the Chambers family, a group chasing grand dreams with relentless optimism.
At the heart of the story is Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo), who is released from prison and returns to a family that has evolved in his absence.
His wife Astoria (Missick) and their sons Einstein (Ellison) and Harrison (Di’Allo Winston) have formed a unique family dynamic that Hampton’s return disrupts in unexpected ways.
With its surrealist humor and heartwarming exploration of family bonds, “Government Cheese” promises to deliver a unique viewing experience.

Behind The Scenes
“Government Cheese” comes from the creative minds of Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, who co-created and co-showrun the series.
Hunter also directs, while Oyelowo executive produces under his Yoruba Saxon banner.
The show is produced by Apple Studios in partnership with MACRO Television Studios, with Charles D. King and Marta Fernandez serving as executive producers for MACRO.
Ali Brown of Ventureland joins the production team as an executive producer, adding another layer of creative vision to the mix.
