Dave Chappelle was attacked by a man who rushed him onstage during Hollywood Bowl Show on Tuesday night.

Los Angeles police confirmed to ABC7 that they responded to a call at the Bowl around 10:45 p.m.

They indicated that a man was taken into custody and he was reportedly armed with a gun and a knife.

Phones were confiscated at the event, but some crafty attendees were able to capture video of the wild moment.

In one clip, Dave daps up Chris Rock after the incident, and Chris jokes, “Was that Will Smith?!

Another clip shows Dave Chappelle jokingly saying, “It was a trans man,” a throwback to his controversial Netflix special, “The Closer.”

During the attack, Jamie Foxx ran onstage to help Dave.

Dave said:

Whenever you’re in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff’s hat.

Jamie responded saying, “I thought that was part of the show.”

Dave added, “I grabbed the back of that n***a’s head. His hair is spongey.”

Jamie Foxx chimed in on a more serious note to say:

Listen, I just want to say…this man is an absolute genius. We’ve got to make sure we protect him at all times.

For every comedian who comes out here, this means everything. You’re a genius.

You’re a legend, and we’re not going to let nothing happen to you.

Later in the show, the legendary comedian told the crowd:

I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I just stomped a n***a backstage. I’ve always wanted to do that.

Check out a few clips below that are circulating on social media.

I saw a few tweets blaming Will Smith for the attack on Dave Chappelle and I also saw tweets saying this is just the comedian’s karma.

What are your thoughts on this?
