“Boy Meets World” star Danielle Fishel recently opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis, sharing her journey on the latest episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World.”
The 43-year-old actress revealed that she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a very early form of breast cancer, which she described as “technically stage zero.”
Fishel, a mother of two, candidly discussed her diagnosis with co-hosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle, explaining that she has high-grade DCIS with microinvasion.
Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, Fishel reassured her listeners that she is going to be fine and has scheduled surgery to remove the cancer, along with some follow-up treatment.
She emphasized the importance of early detection, attributing her ability to catch the cancer at such an early stage to staying on top of her regular mammogram appointments.
“The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment,” Danielle Fishel shared.
Initially, Danielle considered keeping her diagnosis private, but after connecting with others who had similar experiences, she decided to share her story publicly.
She hopes that by opening up, she can encourage others to stay vigilant about their health and prioritize regular check-ups.
Danielle Fishel also mentioned that her podcast schedule might be put on hold while she undergoes treatment, but her main goal in sharing her diagnosis is to inspire others to take proactive steps in their healthcare.
“The fact that I am good about going to my doctor’s appointments when, truthfully, it would be so much easier with as busy as I am … it would be so easy to say, ‘I don’t have time for that,’” she said.
“And I didn’t … and they found it so early that I’m going to be fine.”
Please join me in sending Danielle prayers and positive energy!
