Chaka Zulu has been cleared of murder charges in connection to the 2022 triple shooting in Buckhead that left one man dead.
Fulton County prosecutors have determined the longtime manager of Ludacris acted in self-defense when he shot and killed 23-year-old Artez Jamil Benton in the parking lot of his Buckhead restaurant on June 26, 2022.
The music executive, whose real name is Ahmed Chaka Zulu Obafemi, was one of three people shot following a fight between him and others.
Two and a half months after the Buckhead triple shooting Atlanta police identified 52-year-old Chaka Zulu as a suspect and obtained warrants charging him with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a criminal, and simple battery.
Chaka surrendered on Tuesday, September 13, and was booked into Fulton County jail.
He was released the same day on a $200,000 bond, according to jail records.
Chaka Zulu’s attorney Gabe Banks, says the music executive acted in self-defense and discharged a weapon that he is licensed to carry after being attacked.
“It is not lost on Mr. Zulu that someone lost his life, but had Mr. Zulu not lawfully defended himself, Mr. Zulu would have been killed that night.”
Chaka took to social media in August and shared an appreciation post for the two “angels on earth” who saved his life after he was shot.

I’m sure Chaka Zulu is happy to put this ordeal behind him.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Artez Jamil Benton.
