The Carnival Cruise Ship 'Freedom' Catches Fire In The Capital Of Turks & Caicos

The Carnival Freedom cruise ship left Port Canaveral in Florida on Monday (May 23), and on Thursday (May 26), it caught fire while docked in Grand Turk, the capital of Turks and Caicos.

Carnival reported that no passengers were injured.

The cruise line shared the following statement around 8:45 a.m. ET.

All guests and crew are safe, and the ship’s guests were cleared by local authorities to go ashore. We continue to assess the situation.

According to a Carnival spokesperson, the fire broke out inside the ship’s funnel and was quickly extinguished as the ship was in the capital of Turks and Caicos.

The video below shows billows of smoke coming from the funnel of the ship.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The ship is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral in Florida on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. ET.
