WNBA star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Brittney Griner will remain detained in Russia on drug charges for an additional two months until May 19, Russian state news agency TASS reports.

“The court granted the request of the investigation and extended the period of detention of the US citizen Griner until May 19,” the court said, per TASS.

Video of Brittney heading into court surfaced on Twitter.

According to authorities, Brittney was arrested on February 17 on allegations of drug smuggling significant amounts of narcotic substance at a Moscow airport.

Brittney, 31, is a championship-winning player with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, but during the offseason, she plays for Russia’s UMMC Ekaterinburg team.

Upon her arrival in Sheremetyevo Airport, drug-sniffing dogs detected cannabis oil (hash oil), which is a narcotic substance.

Brittney’s wife, Cherelle Griner, took to social media and thanked everyone for their support, and asked people to honor their privacy as they work on her wife’s safe return home.

Brittney’s ex-wife, Glory Johnson, also took to social media with a lot to say about the situation.

The WNBA star is currently trending on social media as people react to the latest news in her case.
