The iconic R&B group Boyz II Men is set to bring their incredible journey to life through two exciting projects: a feature film biopic and a long-form documentary.
Known for timeless hits like “End of the Road,” “Motownphilly,” “On Bended Knee,” and “One Sweet Day,” these projects will explore the group’s 30-year career, filled with success, challenges, and unforgettable music.
The biopic is being developed in collaboration with Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave, with group members Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanya Morris serving as executive producers.
Alongside the film, the documentary will dive deeper into Boyz II Men’s rise to fame in the 1990s, their dominance in R&B, and how they’ve remained a vital part of the music world today.
Why These Projects Matter To Boyz II Men
Nathan Morris explained the importance of finding the right partners for these projects: “We’ve been waiting to find the right partners who understand our story and are willing to tell it all. Denis and Jeff at Compelling Pictures understood us from day one.”
Producers Denis O’Sullivan (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Jeff Kalligheri (“I Wanna Dance With Somebody”) are fast-tracking the biopic while also working on the documentary.
Together, the projects promise to showcase the emotional and inspiring journey of Boyz II Men, with their legendary catalog of hits as a soundtrack.
The Rise of Boyz II Men: From Philly To Worldwide Fame
Boyz II Men made waves in 1991 with their debut album “Cooleyhighharmony.”
Over the years, they’ve sold over 60 million albums worldwide, solidifying their place as the best-selling R&B group of all time.
Recently, they headlined three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, a milestone moment for the group, who started their career performing as an opening act at the same venue.
“Boyz II Men’s story is about brotherhood, perseverance, and timeless music,” said producers O’Sullivan and Kalligheri.
“These projects will capture their highs, struggles, and the legacy of their journey. Fans will love seeing their story brought to life.”
A Behind-the-Scenes Look
The documentary will offer an intimate view of Boyz II Men’s journey, including their personal and professional challenges.
Larry Mestel of Primary Wave called them “one of the most influential bands of their generation,” adding that the documentary will ensure their legacy resonates with new audiences.
Joe Mulvihill, the group’s longtime manager, shared, “I’ve seen the highs, the lows, and everything in between. These projects will give fans a chance to see the emotional and personal side of their success.”
With both a biopic and a documentary in the works, Boyz II Men’s story is ready to inspire audiences old and new.
I hope they allow Michael McCary to be a part of these projects in some capacity.
