Angila Baxter, the mother of R&B singer Sammie, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the “senseless” shooting death of a 27-year-old Florida mother.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, on January 12, Baxter was driving around in her red SUV shooting at random vehicles.
Police received a call at 7:17 p.m. after a Mercedes Benz crashed into a parked car in the driveway of a home.
They found Nekaybaw Collier inside of the Benz dead from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
Around the same time and about two miles away, a motorist flagged down a deputy and said he saw a woman in a red SUV shooting at cars on Pine Hills Road.
Cops found a bullet hole near the trunk of the motorist’s car.
A third victim contacted police and said she was driving on White Heron Drive around 9 p.m. when a woman in a red SUV started cursing at her and accusing her of following her.
Moments later, she heard two thumps and later found two bullet holes in the front of her car.
Another witness told detectives she heard gunshots outside of her home and when she went outside she saw Angila Baxter shooting at random vehicles.
Police took Angila into custody.
According to an affidavit, she told them that she remembered multiple vehicles following her near Pill Hills Road and Belco Drive so she fired at them to “scare them.”
Upon searching her White Heron Drive home, multiple firearms were found, including a revolver.
Investigators later determined the bullet that killed Nekaybaw Collier came from Angila Baxter’s revolver.
In a statement, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said, “Nekaybaw Collier was an innocent victim, struck by the gunfire of a person who claimed she was being ‘followed’ by multiple people when she recklessly fired at numerous vehicles and people.”
Sammie has released a statement on the charges against his mother.
In September, he took to social media to wish her a Happy Birthday.
The R&B singer wrote, “HBD Ma’. Thank you for what you’ve done for me & my siblings. The greatest thing you’ve ever done was introduce to me, God. Forever will do my best to make certain ur fine and ok. 56 yrs around the Sun. God I thank you. @angilabaxter 💙🫶🏾.”
It sounds like Angila Baxter may have had some type of psychotic break.
Nekaybaw Collier was a mother to two beautiful little girls.
