📅 No Comedy This Year At The WHCD? Say What?!
In a surprising (and honestly kinda disappointing) move, the White House Correspondents’ Association has decided to cancel Amber Ruffin’s performance at the upcoming White House Correspondents Dinner on April 26.
Yep, you read that right.
The WHCA is ditching the comedy this year and switching things up in a major way.
🧾 Why They Pulled the Plug On Amber Ruffin
WHCA president Eugene Daniels broke the news in a message to members, saying:
The WHCA board has unanimously decided we are no longer featuring a comedic performance this year.
At this consequential moment for journalism, I want to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists.
Translation: they’re going serious this year—and they want all the attention on journalism, not jokes.
🎙️ Amber Ruffin Was Ready To Rock The Room
When her performance was first announced back in February, Daniels was hyped, calling Amber Ruffin his top pick for the night.
And honestly, we got it—Amber’s smart, hilarious, and fearless.
She’s been killing it with “The Amber Ruffin Show” and has broken barriers as one of the few Black women in late-night.
Her voice is bold, her humor is sharp, and she doesn’t back down from the real stuff.
🚫 Trump’s Not Coming Either… And Amber Had Thoughts
Former President Donald Trump isn’t expected to attend this year’s dinner.
And Amber made her feelings very clear about that during an interview with Jake Tapper.
When asked about Trump possibly showing up, she didn’t hold back:
“No one” wanted him there.
Whew! Amber said what she said—and that’s exactly the energy we’ve come to love from her.
🧠 What This Means For The White House Correspondents Dinner
The WHCA’s decision to nix the comedy and center the night around awards and mentorship is definitely a vibe shift.
Past dinners have always mixed glitz, politics, and laughs—but this year, it’s all about journalism.
Some folks will respect the move. Others (like me) are kinda bummed we won’t get to see Amber do her thing in that room.
Still, it raises a question…
💬 Should Comedy Still Be Part Of The White House Correspondents Dinner?
Was canceling Amber Ruffin a smart call or a missed opportunity?
Does the dinner need to be all business, or is there still room for humor in the middle of serious conversations?
Let’s talk about it—drop your thoughts in the comments.
