According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Akili McDowell is accused of fatally shooting 20-year-old Cesar Peralta on July 20th at the Thorntree Apartments in northeast Harris County.

Authorities allege that Peralta had gone to the apartment complex to purchase drugs from McDowell, who was reportedly known in the neighborhood as “the weed man.”

“This defendant was seen talking to the complainant. They had a fistfight. The defendant pulled out a pistol and shot him once. When the complainant went to his car, he shot him again and again,” the prosecutor stated during McDowell’s initial court appearance.

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, reported hearing the gunshots and then seeing McDowell speed away from the scene.
