Kayzen Hunter and his family visit their favorite Waffle House waiter, Devonte Gardner, every weekend, and when they learned he was having financial struggles, they sprung into action.
During a recent weekend visit, the Hunter family found out that Devonte was walking or hitching a ride to work due to him having car trouble.
When they got home, Kayzen told his mom they needed to start a GoFundMe for Devonte.
Due to black mold, Devonte was forced to move out of his apartment and into a hotel with his wife and two daughters.
The Hunters started the GoFundMe page with a goal of $5000.
When the GoFundMe surpassed $30,000, Devonte knew he could use the money to rent a new apartment for his family.
The GoFundMe is currently at $100,000.
Hi, my name is Kayzen, I am 8 years old. I am wanting to raise funds for my friend, Devonte, who I met and have come to know from eating breakfast at Waffle House. Devonte is a hard-working dad with two little girls and a wife. He is a dedicated worker and has to walk or get a ride to get to work every day. He was looking for a decent-priced car, and his family was unfortunate and ended up in an apartment riddled with black mold. He had to get his kids out and it set him back a lot. We are now helping him get into a clean rental property and want to help him even more by raising funds so he has a reliable vehicle to drive his family and get to and from work. Devonte is one of the most joyous and positive people you’ve ever met!! He always greets us with the biggest smile. I hope your heart is as BIG as mine and you will help me spread kindness in the world. Any amount helps!!
Devonte said when he first met Kayzen they bonded instantly.
Kayzen, a great guy!
Ever since I met him, the first time I met him, when he came to my Waffle House, we connected and bonded from right there.
Kayzen said Devonte is his favorite because he is funny, and he treats everyone with respect.
He’s really funny. He treats everyone with respect.
Devonte is very grateful to Kayzen Hunter and the Hunter family for their kindness, thoughtfulness, and friendship.
He said he will use the money to buy a car, upgrade his family’s living situation, and pay it forward.
He also vowed to attend all of Kayzen’s school graduations.
When Kayzen graduates make sure you let me know.
I’m gonna be there at elementary, middle school, high school, and college.
I would be there all the way around.
