Deaira Summers acid attack in Detroit

A 12-year-old girl was arrested and is facing multiple charges following an acid attack on another child at a Detroit park.

The victim has been identified as 11-year-old Dearia Summers

Her mother, Domonique Summers, told a local news outlet that an issue arose between the 12-year-old and Deaira’s cousin.

Deiara left the playground at Vernor Elementary School where the argument happened, but was attacked when she returned to get her purse.

Domonique said the 12-year-old’s mother brought the acid to the park that was used in the attack.

Deaira suffered second and third-degree burns on her back, legs, and arms and spent four days in the burn unit of the Children’s hospital.

“How does a child even think to bring acid to a park? You don’t know what you did,” Summers said.

“I feel like it was the most evil thing you could do to a kid and especially the fact that she was an innocent bystander.”

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the preteen was charged with one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and one count of felonious assault.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said in a statement:

his is an extremely troubling set of allegations.

Instant horrible decision-making can have lifelong effects on others.

There is no excuse for this.

The 12-year-old has been released on $10,000 bond with tether at a preliminary hearing.

At the time of this report, the 12-year-old’s mother has not been charged.

As a matter of fact, the Detroit Police Department and the DPSCD are playing hot potato in regard to the investigation.

Deiara Summer’s grandmother, Debra Golston, has launched a GoFundMe to help the family pay for medical costs and ongoing care.
