Donald Trump’s recent attack on VP Kamala Harris’ blackness has sparked a new Twitter trend: #WhenITurnedBlack.
While participating in the NABJ forum, the former president spoke about VP Harris, saying:
“She was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know – is she Indian or Black?”
Watch the clip below.
We now know Kamala’s brave story. When did the rest of you “turn” black? How old were you? Where were you when the blackness finally took over your body? Share your stories. This is a safe space. #WhenITurnedBlack pic.twitter.com/URBx3fqcbh

#WhenITurnedBlack Trends
Twitter users are now taking to their timelines to share hilarious stories about the moment they realized and/or embraced their blackness.
I’ve been reading tweets since last night and I have to admit, not only did they give me a hearty laugh, it also did my heart good.
At the same time, there were also tweets that were a stark reminder of the racism and ignorance many of us have experienced, even as a child.
Read a few tweets below.

Once I was at a party. And before I knew it I was taken over by the spirit of dance. Struck.. not by Cupid’s arrow but rather.. his shuffle. Then I knew…..I’m a black.

It was April of 1992 when I took my first standardized test and it asked my race. Of all the colors things listed, I didn’t see the word “brown” so I chose “Other”— my teacher then informed me that I was Black. She instantly became a moron in my eyes because I pulled out my brown…

I was 10 years old and my mother picked me up from school as she always did. We were driving home when I spotted a McDonald’s and queried my mother if we could stop in for a meal. She responded, “do you have McDonald’s money?” and in fact, I did not. That’s #WhenITurnedBlack

When I was 8 years old, I was forced into a dance contest against my cousins to "Don't Stop to You Get Enough." I won, by the way.
