🗣️ Smokey Robinson Responds To $50 Million Sexual Assault Lawsuit
Music legend Smokey Robinson is speaking out after being hit with explosive allegations in a newly filed civil lawsuit.
The 85-year-old Motown icon is accused by four former employees of repeated sexual assault, harassment, and wage violations spanning nearly two decades.
In a brief phone call with the Daily Mail on Wednesday, May 7, Robinson said, “I am appalled.” He continued, “I can’t speak about this right now.”
His statement marks the first public response since the lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, May 6.
As of this writing, his legal team has not issued any additional comments.
📄 What The Lawsuit Alleges
The civil complaint, filed by four women under the names Jane Doe 1 through 4, claims Robinson engaged in a disturbing pattern of sexual misconduct while they were employed as housekeepers and domestic staff.
The lawsuit accuses Robinson of sexual assault and battery, false imprisonment, gender violence, creating a hostile work environment, and labor violations, including failure to pay minimum wage and overtime.
Each woman details specific and repeated instances of alleged rape, groping, and verbal abuse—often behind locked doors, with threats or intimidation used to prevent them from speaking out.
👀 His Wife Frances Also Named
Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, is also named in the lawsuit.
The plaintiffs claim she was aware of her husband’s “deviant misconduct” and failed to intervene—despite allegedly knowing about past settlements involving similar accusations.
💬 Smokey Robinson’s Brief But Telling Reaction
Though Robinson didn’t go into detail, his “I am appalled” comment suggests he was blindsided by the lawsuit—or is choosing not to address the accusations directly at this time.
Given the severity of the claims and the $50 million in damages being sought, this situation is far from over.
